Rainbow Chard and Nasturtiums

Fern, over on the great website, Life On The Balcony asked me to participate in her blog carnival about plant combinations for containers. I have to say that coming up with one combination was a little like being asked to choose a favorite child. There are so many that I could wax ecstatic about. However, I've chosen a combination of nasturtiums and rainbow chard because it's both beautiful and edible.
I'm a huge fan of nasturtiums. I use their leaves to add a lovely spice to salads. You can also eat the flowers. Rainbow chard can be eaten raw when the leaves are very young and can also be cooked like spinach. It's great sautéed with a little oil, garlic and lemon.
Both nasturtiums and rainbow chard like full sun, but can tolerate partial shade. Chard doesn't like to get too hot, so some midday shade is a good idea.

Wow, I’m growing both of those, but it hadn’t occurred to me to combine them in the same container. I was worried the climbing orange nasturtiums would strange anything else.
