Fern, over on the Life on the Balcony website, is asking about using non-traditional containers for her March blog carnival, which started me thinking.
I search for cool containers all year long. I haunt local thrift shops and yard sales and it's amazing what you can find. I love using old colanders - they are easy to find and usually cheap. They also have great, built-in drainage.
I've also use plastic laundry baskets, egg-shells, garbage cans, but I think my favorite unusual containers that I've come up with are these clamshells that I found on the beach.
Here's how to make clamshell container gardens.

Do you line the colanders with anything or just put the dirt straight in? I’ve considered them in the past but have been worried they would drain too quickly!
Hi – Yes, I line them with plastic window screening. Here’s a “how to” on making a lettuce colander.

I love these unusual containers! Really interesting
I just had an idea about reusing and recicling. If you are going to renew your bathroom dont thow out your old pices like the toilet and the bathtub and the hand basin, even the shower can be reused.Look for a nice spot in your garden and put them all to good use again, the bathtub can hold even a couple of gold fish and some water planrs the hatbasin canbe filed with pebles and water and can be usedas a bird bath and the toilet canbe used as acontainer for some fragant and beatiful flowers. The shower can be fixed to hold some nice plant also and can be used as a nice water fountain.
