This has been an amazing tomato year for me. I can't even count how many plants I have, and sadly, I did such a pathetic job with labeling, that I don't even know which are which.

Tomatoes are one of the most satisfying plants you can grow in containers (or anywhere else for that matter). There are all kinds of ways to grow them - upside down, right side up, or my favorite way, in self watering containers, like Earthboxes.

But no matter how you are growing them, you need to make sure you give them enough water, especially as the tomatoes get larger. If you don't give them enough water you can run into a problem called blossom end rot, which is really no fun at all.

It is also critical that you fertilize your tomatoes. When I plant my tomato seedlings, I mix an organic, slow-release fertilizer into my potting soil and then, I give them a drink of a diluted fish emulsion, seaweed combination every week or two.

Also, here's a video I did about growing tomatoes in containers.
