I love everything about tomatillos. I love growing them and watching them evolve from a seed to a tall spindly seedling, then into a huge robust plant that sprawls everywhere. I love the yellow flowers and then watching them transform into Chinese lanterns, which eventually fill with fruit--a small ball of sweet tartness.
This year, for the first time, I am growing both purple and green tomatillos from seeds from Renees Garden. I have them growing in Smart Pots and Earthboxes. I am going to make buckets of tomatillo salsa which I will freeze and can.
I was thrilled when my friend, Liza Bakewell, amazing gardener, cook, and author, agreed to share her recipe and photos.
