As many of you know, labeling plants is not my strong suit. In fact I think I am label challenged. Currently I have about 10 mystery tomato plants. Some of the others I managed to label, but it would truly be miraculous if I could actually read any of the labels by the end of the summer. I have about 6 pepper plants that I was quite certain when I planted them, I would remember what they were. Not even close. I have no idea what color they will turn out to be.
Enter Stevie Rose at the fabulous website, Garden Therapy who has done step by step instructions for the coolest plant tags I have seen in a very long time. It's too late for this year, but maybe next year I will finally get it together. Oh, c'mon...a girl can always dream.

Thanks for showing off my metal plant tags. It was a fun project and once you have the supplies take just a tad longer than writing the names out – but no more faded labels on mystery plants. I want to metal stamp everything now!
I always plant the identifying markers with plants but they get lost in the growth after a while, these look a bit more functional and look nice too.
In response to your labeling issue, I keep a notebook. I’ve labeled all my plant pots with a number (blue painters tape works good), then in my notebook, next to the assigned number, I write down what is in the pot. It works very well. I leave room ( say, several lines) for each plant, to keep any notes I may want through the year.
From year to year, I just re-assign the pot the new plant. I start each year with a new sheet of paper.
I think this organization comes from being a secretary for many years, and needing to be organized!
Patti – What a great system. Many thanks for sharing. I do start a notebook at the beginning of each season and attempt to map my plants. Your way would be much easier. However, I usually lose the notebook about a month into the season. I’m organizationally hopeless.
My pointer covered the ‘n’ on the label and I was puzzled. Why – I speculated – did she plant ‘ m i t ‘ ? Moved mouse. Oh, nevermind.
My pointer covered the ‘ n ‘ in the pix. I was puzzled. Why did she plant ‘m i t ‘?, I asked. Moved mouse. m i N t….Oh. Nevermind.
Nina – There are so many plants in the world, there probably is one called ‘mit’!
