I really never thought I would grow pumpkins in containers. It always seemed too high a degree of difficulty for the pay off, but my husband got all enthusiastic about the idea, so I tried it this summer.
I have to say that it was really fun. Even though we only got four small pumpkins (and one that didn't have time to ripen fully so it's still green -- though a very beautiful green), it was totally worth the effort. The vines were pretty impressive --about 8 feet long and they flowered with huge yellow blossoms for months. I used a large orange Smart Pot, which looked pretty great too.
