I went to a friend's house the other day and she had about eight pots of mums lining her walk. All were wilted and half dead. I could envision them clamping their limp branches to their throats, gasping for moisture. I felt I had to suggest that her plants were in desperate need of water.
That's the thing about mums. They are almost always thirsty because most are pretty root-bound. By the time they get to you, there isn't a lot of soil left in the pot to retain water.
