First, make sure that your potting soil doesn't already have fertilizer mixed in. If it doesn’t, you’ll want to apply a slow release fertilizer to your soil. I use an all purpose organic fertilizer like worm castings or Bradfields Organic All Purpose Fertilizer. Add the amount suggested for fertilizer application in the directions, and then mix it into your potting soil.
