This is the description provided by O'Donal's Nurseries and Landmarcs, Inc. about their award winning entry into the Portland Flower Show:
"Every mountain stream eventually makes its way to the sea; along the way nourishing every living thing in its path. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us all to protect water bodies with cleansing vegetative buffers. Although it is common practice to recommend only native plants for this purpose, our garden shows that proper selection and planting can be effective using a host of non-invasive related plants; some extremely similar, but separated from 'native' plants only by time and continental drift."
In addition to winning "Best in Show," this exhibit also won, the Beatrix Farrand Award for alternative garden style, the Cary Award for using Cary Award-winning plants and the Melvin Estabrook Award for innovative techniques and detail.
