Guide Review - OXO Container Gardening Tool Set

Let me start by saying that I’m not a great fan of tool sets. Too often they have tools you don’t need and are missing ones you do. However, it is not surprising that the folks at OXO, famous for innovative design, and a the world's most fabulous vegetable peeler, have come up with a set that challenges my previous experiences. This set of 6 tools was designed specifically for container gardening and it works. The tools have been sized for the smaller spaces that container gardeners work in, without sacrificing durability and utility.

When I picked up the small scoop my first reaction was that it was too small to be of much use. Wrong. It was a great asset when scooping potting soil and getting it into the small spaces between plants. The snips are also particularly good for deadheading and pruning in the wild, green congestion of my full-to-bursting containers. The trowel comes to a sharp point, which makes it great for navigating between plants and slicing through packed soil. The head is clearly marked in inches and centimeters for measuring planting depths.

The “multi-use transplanter” is one of those tools you didn’t even know you needed, but once you get, gives you an ah-ha moment. It really comes in handy for getting root-bound plants out of their containers.

The set comes packaged in a tidy bright blue container, which seals the deal for me because I’m a sucker for cool looking organizational aids.
