Warning - I'm about to sound like a Tilley Hat advertisement, but this is a true story.
I was on a field trip with my kids to see the puffins on Eastern Egg Rock, off the coast of Maine (sounds very “Tilley” already). As I was searching the horizon through my binoculars for the dainty little birds that are puffins (who knew? For some reason, I always thought they were the size of penguins), I spotted a fabulous hat right there on the deck of our boat.
Being a huge fan of sun hats with all my container gardening, I staggered up to the bow of the wave-tossed boat (I'm sounding "Tilley" again) and asked the woman in the gorgeous, though understated, hat where she got it. Low and behold it was a Tilley Hat. I had seen ads for Tilley Hats but had never seen one in person.
Now that I’ve got the Tilley TH8 Hemp, I can say unequivocally that it lives up to its hype. It is beautiful and very well made. Also, there is just something about the fit of the hat that just makes you feel almost cinematic when you wear it (maybe it's something in the brim that makes one go all hyperbolic). I have had a bunch of friends try it on and they agree - it really does look good on almost everyone.
The hat is seriously constructed, durable and UV protective. Oh, and did I mention that it looks FABULOUS? In the four page booklet that comes with the hat (yes, there is a fair amount of hype) it says that Tilley hats fit lower than most others, which is part of why they are both flattering and sun protective.
The Tilley TH8 comes in four sizes and has two cords, front and back, to make sure it stays on, even in a windstorm. The sweatband is very comfortable and the hat is well balanced and feels suitably luxurious.
The Tilley TH8 is pretty pricey, but well, life really can look better from under the brim of a beautiful hat.
