Situate your pool in a sunny spot. If you are growing herbs or vegetables, you’ll need full sun – at least six hours a day. Also, when deciding where your pool will go, keep in mind that if you put it directly on top of your lawn, it will kill your grass. I put mine on my dirt driveway, which is the sunniest spot around my house.

Fill your pool either with potting soil, or a combination of potting soil and garden soil. I used three large bags of organic potting soil and one bag of garden soil.

Mix in a slow release fertilizer, though if you are planting herbs, use very little, as the flavor of herbs diminishes if you use too much.
